Updated by Kathryne Taylor on July 12, 2024
It’s cold outside here in Kansas City, so I’m sharing my favorite soup recipes available on the blog. These soups and stews are warming, hearty and packed with veggies. All of the recipes are vegetarian, of course. Many are vegan as well, either as written or with slight modifications.

Gluten free and vegan
“So I never comment on blogs (but i ALWAYS read the comments section). If you’re like me, you’re looking for someone who’s made this soup to vouch for how awesome it is. Well look no further, cause I’m your girl.
I’ve been a vegetarian my whole life and soup seems to still be one of those things that’s super difficult to for me to want to eat it again and again for days after I make it. I consider this one my first victory—Incredibly flavorful and hearty without all the fatty cream. I didn’t have almonds or tamari, so i topped mine with toasted pepitas and it was perfect. It also helped to have my immersion blender on hand.
Thank you, Kate!” – Laurel

Gluten free and vegan
“I made this soup for lunch today during our blizzard on Cape Cod. It is amazingly delicious! The toasted coconut on top really makes it! I used an immersion blender and added the coconut milk to the soup in the pot afterwards. Not as pretty as yours but still delicious. Thanks for another great recipe, Kate. I will definitely make this many times.” – Cindy
22) Seriously Good Vegetable Soup
Gluten free and vegan
“This soup was EXACTLY what I was looking for. Hearty. Veggie-packed, and not bland at all (which I find can be an issue with vegetable soups…like carrots in tomato water I often say). My veggie combo was potato, zucchini, green beans, and kale at the end – used more like three cups of veg and kale each. And had some fresh thyme in the house to used that – Just right. Saving to my fav soup recipes. Thank you!” – Rachel
23) Broccoli Cheese Soup
Gluten free and easily vegan
“Oh my gosh! This soup is so creamy and broccolicious. It’s NOT a dairy bomb like many other broccoli cheese soups I have made or bought in the past. What a great idea to add potato..! Thanks so much Kate!” – Dave
24) Mexican Quinoa Stew
Gluten free and vegan

26) Quick Dal Makhani

Hello Kate,
Soup is perhaps my favorite food and I make it each week. That green soup sounded a lot like an old soup I make called Alpine Soup. I love green soup. One soup, you may not know and one that I love is called Lovage Soup. If you grow the herb lovage then you likely know that you need to use it up as it can grow 5 feet tall! How’s Cookie doing? All the best!
I’ve never heard of alpine soup or lovage soup! Quite intrigued by your lovage idea. Cookie is doing well, but she has one stubborn lymph node and we’re investigating further options.
I hope you’ll try growing lovage this year. It is a perennial and has no bad habits! Even if you don’t garden, this herb is no work! The stems are hollow so some people like to drink their Bloody Mary’s through them…since the plant is celery like. You’ll love the smell and taste. I dry it for Winter use and made wonderful vinegar with it as well. I love learning new things and learned today that nutritional yeast is good in soup. I’ll gonna try that! All the best to Cookie, like my dog Dalai…they are are number one fans!
I did the maths: I’ve made 56% (15) of these 27 soups/stews :)
The only one I didn’t absolutely love was number 20 (the vegetarian pho). I am so happy to think I have another 12 soups to try!!! Thank you so much for your amazing work and generosity.
Love your math! Awesome. Hope you love all of the rest!
Hi! I so adore your recipes! Fabulous! My big question is (after looking at all those soups), why does every single recipe have an avg rating of 4.9? So unusual. Thanks!
Hi Nancy, I did not notice that! Surely they do not all have exactly a 4.9 rating. Soups are one of my specialties, but I assure you I do not manipulate the comments!
Oh my gosh! You have the best recipes! I just printed out 20 of the 27 soups! Cannot wait to get cooking!!!!! Thank you!
Hooray!! Enjoy, Tracy!
Your soup recipes are particular favorites of mine! Four of these are on my regular rotation already (Tomato soup, BEST lentil soup, Vegetarian Chili, and Spicy Black Bean) and several others are on my list to try!!
I love it! Thank you, Miriam!
Your soups are my go-to soups! I’ve cooked many if not most of them. Making the tomato soup tonight. Thanks for your wonderful recipes!
Thank you so much, Stephanie! :)
Cookie and Kate: this is your best post ever. Thank you from Iowa!
You’re welcome, Mary! Stay warm.
Thank you Kate for so many amazing recipes. We have tried several of the soups on this list and try to make a new one each week.
I found your blog a couple years ago when I was looking for a healthy muffin recipe and I found so much more. Your recipes are delicious and healthy and perfect for my vegetarian daughter. I bought her your cookbook as a gift and she loves it. Thank you so much!
Great. Delicious and healthy. Thanks for sharing
best wishes,
Mane Kancor
Good
I love that all of these recipes are either DF/GF or have that option available. Although I love wheat and dairy, I try to cut them out when I’m not feeling well (as well as sugar) to make it easier for my body to get well, which makes this the perfect list for anybody feeling under the weather!
You lied – all the stews in your cookbook are not online.
I’m searching for the recipe for “Moroccan Butternut, Chickpea, and Couscous Stew.” I’ve bought your cookbook, served this at Thanksgiving, and now my sister in law wants the recipe, but you don’t have it online. What’s up?
Hi Linda, You could can see where to order my cookbook online. I’m sorry that was confusing.
